The latest GPU-enabled Magic Bullet Suite 13 plugins require 2GB of VRAM to render HD projects in a stable environment, and 4GB for ≥4k/high resolution imagery. Those numbers will double if you have multiple monitors attached, triple with three monitors, etc.
Magic Bullet Looks, Colorista III, Colorista IV, Mojo, Renoiser and Film are all Mercury enabled. This means that in addition to being able to render in OpenGL, they can also be used with OpenCL and CUDA.
While we recommend using Mercury rendering paths and meeting the VRAM requirements above, you may want to try switching rendering methods if you are running into performance/rendering issue when running below the system requirements.
To change your rendering method in Premiere Pro or After Effects...
- For Premiere Pro: Head into File > Project Settings > General and open the Project Settings dialog window.
- For After Effects: Head into File > Project Settings and open the Project Settings dialog window.
- In the Project Settings window, navigate to Video Rendering and Playback and open the dropdown menu next to Renderer. Depending on your hardware, you’ll be shown either Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) or Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), and Mercury Playback Engine Software Only. Some hardware configurations will show all three options as shown below.
- Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) - OpenCL is supported across many graphic cards but is largely associated with ATI/AMD configurations. We recommend this setting over OpenGL.
- Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA) - CUDA is an Nvidia Technology and is only supported by Nvidia cards. We recommend this setting over OpenGL.
- Mercury Playback Engine Software Only - This is the OpenGL render option for our plugins. We recommend this setting to help troubleshoot issues with our products.
