Why are particles appearing outside of my Light/Layer Source?


If you are seeing particles appear outside of a particle emitter's source, it's likely the result of the Emitter Size parameter not being zeroed out by default. 

Set the Emitter Size to 0, 0, 0 to keep all particles strictly within the 3D Layer or Light Source they've been mapped to.

The emitter size is not zeroed out by default on account it would reduce the visible effects of other parameters' default states.
